Troubleyn/Jan Fabre

Performing Arts

Troubleyn/Jan Fabre is the theatre company of the Belgian artist Jan Fabre. Jan Fabre has grown to become one of the most important theatre artists on the international stage.

In the beginning of the 80’s he made a clean break with the conventions of contemporary theatre performance by introducing the concept of ‘real time, real action’ on stage. With the productions This is theatre like it was to be expected and foreseen (1982) and The Power of Theatrical Madness (1984) he established his unique place in the western theatre canon. The truth of the human body is a key element that runs through his extensive stage work. The great masterpiece came in 2015 with acclaimed Mount Olympus – To glorify the cult of tragedy (A 24-hour performance), a marathon piece that thematizes Greek tragedies.

Troubleyn/Jan Fabre, based in Antwerp, has gained international recognition for its innovative productions, pushing artistic boundaries and challenging conventions and engaging audiences with thought provoking performance. The company continues to explore Jan Fabre’s thinking about theatre as a total work of art with its latest production Peak Mytikas (On the top of Mount Olympus), an 8-hour performance
